Melville, NY — In response to local reports, Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler urging him to address concerns that individuals with developmental disabilities living in group homes are being wrongfully removed from a program that provides phone service for qualifying consumers. The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Lifeline program, which began in 1985, was developed to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable phone service necessary for employment, family, and emergency services.
