United States Senator Charles E. Schumer and Congressman Steve Israel today reintroduced legislation to increase boating safety by requiring capacity plates on boats to help educate and warn recreational boaters about the passenger and weight capacities of boats. Both Schumer and Israel began working on this issue in response to a boating accident in 2012 that lead to the tragic loss of 3 children when a 34ft Silverton boat carrying 27 passengers capsized in Cove Neck immediately following a July 4th fireworks show.
